CRA: Weather in Cocoa Growing Areas Through 21 June 2025

West Africa. The very heavy rain in southwest Côte d’Ivoire reported last week has slowed. The 30-day total slowed from 462 mm at 14 Jun to 423 mm at 21 Jun. Veriground stations reported only 55 mm in the latest 10 days. Amounts close to that level in approaching days will let wet areas dry. Heavy rain has not spread northward. Although rain in the center west and northwest cocoa areas has increased, as is typical for Jun, rain has been extreme. The 30-day total was 144 mm in the west central area (west of Gagnoa) and 113 mm in the northwest (around Man).

The burst of rain appears to have been generally good for the current summer crop and for the 24/25 main crop. The southwest was the center of losses from extreme rain during the spring of 2023. There have been no reports of disease that would cause comparable losses. Cumulative annual rain through 21 Jun of 2023 in the southwest was 571 mm. Cumulative rain during 2025 was less at 456 mm. Forecasts show rain continuing to slow during the coming week in the center west and gradually moving northward. This is typical for Jun and Jul.
Rain in Ghana has been less than in Côte d’Ivoire. Rain in Ghana’s southwest, like in Côte d’Ivoire an important area for cocoa, accelerated during early Jun, but the 30-day total to 21 Jun was only 174 mm, much less than 423 mm in Côte d’Ivoire. Whereas rain in Côte d’Ivoire peaked and slowed quickly, rain in Ghana still was above 100 mm in the latest 10-days. Cumulative 2025 rain in the southwest through 21 Jun was 441 mm, less than the 541 mm seen during the same period of 2023.
Weather in other cocoa origins continues close to normal.
