Supplement for High Rain Areas in West Africa

Since CRA’s weather report for 21 Jun, rain has increased in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana. Some cocoa areas in Côte d’Ivoire have seen amounts like those seen during 2023. In that year, extreme Jun-Jul rain contributed to 23/24 crop losses by knocking flowers from trees and promoting the Black Pod fungus. During both 2023 and 2024, rain has been heaviest in the southwest, especially on the coast. In Ghana, rain during 2024 has spread more evenly than in 2023, which was heaviest also in Ghana’ southwest. The largest 30-day amounts have fallen in the northwest, around Sunyani, and reached 300 mm. Ghana’s largest amounts elsewhere have been around 200 mm.
